Dr. Amy Martell

Welcome to the Canton Area School District! It is my great honor and pleasure to be leading the faculty, students, families, and community members that comprise the Canton Area School District. The Canton Area School District currently serves 891 students in the boro of Canton, townships of Canton and LeRoy, in Bradford County; the townships of McIntyre and McNett, in Lycoming County; and the township of Union in Tioga County.

Our beautifully centralized campus consists of one elementary (K-6) and one high school (7-12). Our students continually strive for academic excellence and our families take a collaborative role with the district so our students can become active contributors in the local, national, and global community.

It is the goal of the Canton Area School District to actively involve all stakeholders in the educational process. Through collaboration, a commitment to education, and a willingness to be lifelong learners, the district believes that all students can strive for excellence in whatever career opportunities they may choose.

As we continue to achieve our academic excellence, we continue to keep a focus on our district mission to work cooperatively with the community and its resources to maximize student achievement. Please visit our website to stay informed about current district activities and information.

      COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
      Comprehensive / Strategic Planning

In Pennsylvania, Chapter 4 of the Public School Code requires all school district’s to complete specific comprehensive plans for different parts of the school system.  The School Code also specifies the plan development process, required components, committee make-up, and timelines.  District’s are required to use a state created planning portal that creates uniform plans across the Commonwealth.
The individual plans which together form the Comprehensive Plan are:

      • Professional Education Plan (Every 3 Years)
      • Special Education Plan (Every 3 Years)
      • Educator Induction Plan (Every 6 Years)
      • Student Services Plan (Every 6 Years)
      • Gifted Education Plan (Every 6 Years)
Canton Area School District Comprehensive Plan

The Board of Directors approved the 2024 – 2027 Future Ready Comprehensive Plan in December, 2023.  This plan represents the collective efforts of multiple stakeholder committee’s.  Collectively, the FRCPP is working to accomplish goals in three main areas:

      1. Transition mathematics assessments that evaluate student learning to the level of rigor comparable to the cognitive / performance level required by PA Standards. Focus on continuous improvement of mathematical thinking.
      2. Early Literacy transitioned to phonics-based / science of reading programs with rich content vocabulary to enable students to build reading skills through foundational knowledge building.
      3. English Language Arts - Writing across the curriculum grades 3-12.
        • Increase academic achievement school-widel through the use of Instructional Rounds
