School Closing

Good afternoon faculty, staff and families of the Canton Area School District,

This afternoon (3/23/20), the Department of Education (PDE) announced all schools in the commonwealth will remain closed to students, through at least April 9 as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. The closure order could be extended beyond April 9th, if necessary to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19.

Under the new timeline, school buildings would reopen on April 7 for two days to allow school administrators, teachers and other staff time to prepare classrooms, set up cafeterias, schedule transportation and arrange other business operations. Students would return to school on April 9, unless extending the closure is needed in response to the situation with the virus at that time.

I think it is imperative for our students and their families to be aware that we, as a school district, will be exploring ways to educate our students prior to the scheduled re-opening on April 9th. These options, as shared earlier, may be through virtual options that we have. Please continue to visit our website, your email and listen to our all calls for important announcements around the areas of potential virtual education options and other alternative means of education.  Again, I cannot stress enough that we continue to explore educational options and will commit to a continuity of education plan for our students.  As always, please stay safe, and I wish you and your family continued good health.
